Re: Mounting 16 scrolls order Aug 15th 2013

Hey Gary, Thanks for sending me the new silk samples. I am indeed concerned about the color shift of gold to drab, and more concerning to me it seems to have lightened a bit as well. Though the copper silk also seems to have reddened slightly between the last batch I have on hand, lets just make eve...

Re: Mounting 16 scrolls order Aug 15th 2013

Great. The paintings have all shipped to China, and since they are going express they should arrive in a week or so. Yes, if you wouldn't mind, please do send me a new swatch of silks. I am particularly concerned about the gold silk to more drab olive color shift- I have an older scroll here that ha...

Re: Mounting 16 scrolls order Aug 15th 2013

Hey Gary, I submitted the order. No sweat on the wider scroll- I try to cut all of my paintings under 13" for this reason, but for that particular one it wasn't possible. I ordered the fancy gold subpanels on a few of them. However, in the several times I've ordered these before I've gotten very dif...

Re: Batch of new scrolls for mounting

Hey Gary! I'm back with a new batch of scrolls- still finishing up painting a few of them before I submit them to you on or around August 15th. I will have about 20 of them. I just wanted to check in to make sure that the process is pretty much the same for everything these days, it has been awhile ...

I'd used full strength watercolor ink that I'd dripped onto the paper without any kind of binder, so there was a ton of pigment there. The metallic mica inks were mixed with a low concentration of neutral pH adhesive, so they stuck well. Anyway, I'll keep this in mind on future paintings. BTW, the t...

Howdy, Got the scrolls today, and of course they all look excellent. Great job, as usual! My regards to the artisans in China. The copper silk looks wonderful- I'd only gotten the swatches you'd sent after I'd submitted the order, and in afterthought I would have done exactly what you guys did, swit...

wow, i have been a serious pain in your ass the last two weeks. Apologies for that, I didn't realize that I should sent them straight to Beijing.

Let me know if you need to charge me for that leg of the shipping cost.

you know what- screw it, I'm not going to change any of the mounting instructions. As there's no picture reference on the invoice I got and because I'd put them out of order when I was choosing silks last time, its way too confusing (and these sorts of decisions can take me forever). Lets leave it a...

i forgot to mention that yes, i've had so much damn trouble with the vermillion stamp ink taking forever to dry, sometimes smearing all over everything or worse yet onto adjacent paintings, that I don't even stamp the scrolls until after they're mounted.

I hate to be a pain in the ass, but yes, I do think that I'd like to change some of the mounting instructions for the scrolls given that I now have the samples in hand. There are a couple swatches that sort of surprised me compared to what I'd seen in previous orders. Incidentally, when you say that...

great. I've had paintings with this type of ink dry mounted before, and they've come out fine, so I'm not terribly worried about it. the sized xuan is more of a concern for me, so hopefully that won't be a problem. Thanks for the tips on exhibiting in China- based on your stories, you're clearly the...

all done. I put a note in the order form about the metallic ink and blotchiness on sized xuan- any thoughts? It also sort of got lost in the back and forth about what to do with the order, but it is a dream of mine to one day exhibit and sell artwork in China, Japan, and Korea. After your extensive ...

Heya, Here's what I think we should do- I'm being totally honest when I say that I want to pay you what you deserve for making these scrolls. It behooves me greatly for you to stay in business. I'm just wondering if you received the email I sent you a few days ago with a zip file of images of the paintings to be mounted. I sent it to the gary@orientaloutpost.com address.

thanks!

Batch of new scrolls for mounting

Hi Gary, I've been accumulating a bunch of paintings that I'd like to send off to get mounted (I like your new mockup system by the way, definitely makes things easy). I'd like to send 30 off- would these be better sent in several batches or all at once? I know its a large order, and I don't want to...

folding screens

Hi Gary, I know you don't typically deal in folding screens, but I was wondering if you knew of anyplace that sells blank ones. It would be too much effort to me to construct one from scratch. I've seen blank gold leafed screens- have you ever heard of blank byobu for ink painting? I know you're bus...
