Re: Question about Mt Fuji painting

This is really tough, as I'm not an appraiser. This article I wrote years ago may help: http://www.orientaloutpost.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9 I have a couple references to appraisers here: http://www.orientaloutpost.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1254 http://www.orientaloutpost.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t...

Re: Scroll Mounting Request

Sorry about the size difference shown when you ordered. I guess I just set it to the typical 33cm (13") width of typical calligraphy. Speaking of the small size of your artwork, I just finished a batch of low-profile wooden knobs. The typical knobs are 9.5cm (almost 2") wide, but these ones I am mak...

Re: Nichiren Mandala Gohonzon

A spam bot replied to this post earlier, so I was reading again. I now own a $15,000 digital printer. I can print on beautiful rice paper and mulberry paper. I just need someone who has an original piece or high-resolution graphics. I think we can provide this at a reasonable cost. The wall scroll c...

Re: Eleven scrolls for mounting December 2015

Xiao Li (my master mounter) is having a few issues with this batch. He's released all our employees for the Chinese New Years holiday, but he is staying in the workshop to finish yours and a couple other emergency projects. Last night he got a hold of me to discuss issues with this batch. He says it...

Re: Scroll Mounting Request

Don't rush. I forgot that my shipment to China will be too late to be worked on before the start of Chinese New Years. I can send yours to China next week. No need to do more than Priority Mail or First Class. That will cost you just $6 in domestic postage instead of $49 for EMS or $39 to China. I n...

Sorry for the delay. I missed a few posts this past week. I suggest large characters for "Together Forever", and then your names written in smaller Chinese characters as an inscription down the side of the large characters. You can pick your favorite title from this page: http://www.orientaloutpost....

Re: Could you help with a translation

I did a little digging. 天使心 is not proper grammar nor a natural title in Chinese or Japanese. However, it has been used a few times over the years for certain titles. It's the Chinese title of a Japanese manga comic book series written and illustrated by Tsukasa Hojo, that became a TV movie in 2006....

By next Tuesday would be impossible. Just the air mail delivery from Beijing would take 2 weeks. We usually take 1-2 weeks to have the artwork created by hand, and then build the wall scroll by hand. Then add up to a week for the weekly trip to the international post office (with Beijing traffic, it...

Re: Order I placed online while in Japan- ON#18387

There's not really a problem with the "Flowering Knight Way" inscription. That can be written in Korean Hanja (Chinese characters). The real issue is that "The Spirit of the Dragon Horse and the Power of the Tiger" (龍馬精神虎虎生威) is a Chinese proverb. I did a little research and could not find any evide...

Re: Chinese brass plate - what you think?

I wish I knew an expert on bronze/brass for you. At antique markets in China, something like 90% of all bronze is new reproductions (a nice way to say "fake antiques"). Thus, the need for an expert to look at your piece. Even the patina on the back side can be faked (they have amazing chemicals to r...

OK, I will get these edited ASAP. We are low volume enough on mounting jobs, and your art is unique enough that I can associate the order number later. It should be noted that we are preparing art for a huge exhibition in Beijing right now. We'll try to make yours not-too-slow, but I can't promise i...

Re: verifying translation

I presume you got your templates on the second try via your email. Do keep in mind, this is literally "hidden ball". Colloquially, it is like "ace up your sleeve" in Japanese, but the literal meaning of these characters is different. If you need the larger format that you mentioned, just let me know...

Re: verifying translation

I was probably looking at 秘密兵器 more from the Chinese point of view instead of Japanese. If your target audience is Japanese, 秘密兵器 is probably more common (according to Japanese Google, it's about 10x more common). 秘密武器 is just more universal.

Re: verifying translation

Well, 隠し球 is literally hidden ball, or concealed ball. Very colloquial, very Japanese. Not great for your intended purpose. Instead of 秘密兵器, which is more like a secret soldier weapon, I would just change one character: Japanese might write 秘密の武器 or 秘密武器. In Chinese, 秘密武器 also makes perfect sense. T...

Sorry, I kind of lost track of this project. So, I gave you most of what you need to know about Scroll #3. However, the rest will require a native Japanese person with an extensive knowledge of Japanese calligraphy, and cursive styles. We really just have Chinese experts for this kind of thing. Howe...
