Hi Gary,

It would be nice if there was an obvious way to order something on your site! I see a shopping cart but no order numbers, prices, etc., that are obvious. Am I overlooking something?

Here’s what I would like: I am doing a project for a client that requires the chinese symbol for “team”. He sent me this link:

The images are great, but in low resolution. I need a hi res image. Do you provide those and if so, what is the cost? If not, can you direct me to a site that does? Thanks!

Hi Bob,

It looks like you were using some of the free tools that I built on our website. I am guessing you started from our dictionary:

You probably then clicked on the "more" link which opens the page that shows all kinds of styles of the character(s) for free,

If you want to order a custom wall scroll of anything you find on our dictionary, you can use the link at the right of any entry under the definitions. It's marked: "Buy custom calligraphy wall scroll".

That can be dangerous, as just because a word is in the dictionary does not mean it's appropriate for a wall scroll. We have a big calligraphy database that I wrote too. Here is what comes up for the character you were looking for:

If you want a wall scroll, but the phrase you want is not in our database, you can start by making a request here: http://www.orientaloutpost.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6
If it's easy, there will be no charge for translation and setting up the word or phrase so that you can buy a custom wall scroll. More complex phrases or poems may require a small translation fee.

If you want to order larger digital images of a certain character or characters, you can use our tattoo template service here:
http://www.orientaloutpost.com/chinese- ... ervice.php
You get all of the styles you saw on that page, but in higher resolution, and in the vase of multiple characters, properly aligned/formatted. Prices are $20 for the first English word, $5 each additional English word. This includes professional translation when needed.

To give you some background, I never intended to have a public dictionary. It actually started as a project for use by my translators on my staff only. Somehow, Google indexed the dictionary. When I moved the dictionary to a private space on the website, I got about 2000 emails from around the world begging me to bring it back. I complied, and improved the functionality. So it's now a public service that we offer for free. That part of my website is not really meant to offer things for sale. However, it gets about 5000 unique visitors per day, so it's one of the most popular Chinese/Japanese dictionaries on the web (totally by accident).
